In 1989, in Beijing, a man stopped a line of Chinese tanks by standing in front of them. His identity is not known, hence the alternate title of the photograph: Unknown Rebel. Jeff Widener was there to photograph it.
This caption became one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century.
The "Time" included the Unknown Rebel in the feature "The 100 Most Important People of the Century".
